SiteGround is worth investigating when you want hosted WordPress with documented management and recovery tools. The decision becomes clearer when you separate your actual operational needs from the first-year discount. A simple brochure site and a publication with frequent plugin changes do not necessarily need the same tier. This guide is based on official pages checked on 6–7 October 2026; no paid account, speed benchmark, uptime monitoring or support trial was used.
Choose for the work your site needs
A plan should support the number of sites you run, the storage they use and how you intend to manage changes. For one straightforward site, an entry plan can be a sensible starting point. A project that regularly updates themes or plugins may put more value on a separate testing copy and manual recovery points. We would decide which of those jobs matter before choosing the larger plan.
Do not assume the seller’s “best value” label fits your project. It can be a useful prompt to compare features, but your budget and recovery procedure decide the value. Nor do we use the provider’s promotional benchmark as our own test result. A performance recommendation would require measuring comparable sites in an appropriate region and explaining the methodology.
Compare the initial year with renewal
| Decision | Check before buying | Reason to skip an upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | Actual sites, users, storage or audience in the selected plan | The extra capacity has no defined use |
| Commitment | Full upfront amount, renewal period and temporary extras | The commitment exceeds the available budget |
| Operation | Who will manage updates, access, recovery and the required workflow | A purchase leaves essential work without an owner |
The published renewal rate is materially higher than the introductory rate. Multiplying it by twelve is a useful annual budgeting calculation, not proof of the exact renewal invoice or future price. Ask checkout to confirm the billed term, applicable tax and any optional services. [Official US WordPress plans]
The feature distinctions that affect the choice
The observed cards list one website and 10 GB on StartUp, 50 GB on GrowBig, and 100 GB on GoGeek. GrowBig and GoGeek list staging and on-demand backups; GoGeek adds tools such as Git and priority support. These are documented features, not a demonstration that a larger plan will make a particular site faster. Ask which limits apply to the work your site actually does.
SiteGround’s staging guidance identifies GrowBig and higher as eligible. A copy can help test risky changes away from the live site. However, a test copy still needs a controlled deployment procedure: check what data will be replaced and protect changes made since the copy was created. Staging is most useful when you also have a clear person responsible for the final push. [Staging guidance]
A backup feature is only part of recovery
The standard backup documentation lists up to 30 daily copies for shared hosting, restore options, and five manual backup slots on GrowBig and higher. It distinguishes those from paid premium-backup features. That separation helps avoid buying an add-on just because its name sounds essential. Review the available recovery operation before adding an extra subscription. [Backup service documentation]
For your own evaluation, recover a deliberately changed page on a disposable copy, then verify the content, images and database state. Keep another copy of irreplaceable files. We have not performed this test on SiteGround, so the documentation establishes the advertised workflow rather than proving a successful restore for this portal. Repeat a focused recovery test after a significant setup change.
How to compare another host fairly
WordPress itself is open source and can run on another compatible host. Use the official server requirements as a baseline, then compare the services around the software. A less expensive host can still be a suitable choice when it covers the project’s needs. A higher-priced option needs a reason you can explain, such as a particular recovery or collaboration workflow, rather than an assumption of superior quality.
For an early editorial project, preparing drafts locally is a free way to postpone the public-hosting decision. It is not a substitute for hosting once readers need public access. Compare initial commitment, renewal, storage, recovery and staging together. Avoid declaring a universal price winner when providers require different prepaid terms or offer different services.
Before selecting a plan
Set a renewal budget first. Then confirm the exact plan, tax, domain renewal, email requirements and recovery permissions. Choose a larger tier only when its specific tools solve an identified problem. For background, read shared versus managed WordPress hosting and what a hosting plan includes. This guide leaves speed and support quality unscored because we have not measured them.
Confirm the region and the term
We used the public footer selector to confirm United States and USD on 16 October 2026. The US capture did not establish purchaser-specific tax. The displayed twelve-month rates were cross-checked against the standard-rate documentation. A new provider session can select a different region automatically; Pagember keeps its reference in USD.

How to read these prices
Compare the job, the full initial commitment and the renewal billing basis. Each company appears once. Open Change plan to view every recorded plan and term. Showing a plan does not change your two-plan comparison. The initial view uses a recorded non-trial option where available; it is not a ranking. Feature marks are tied to the documented plan, market, limits and billing conditions. Their check dates are independent from price rechecks. Europe is not one price or tax jurisdiction; select your actual billing country at checkout. These are researched public offers, not checkout quotes or hands-on tests. Currency values are not conversions. Listing order does not depend on commission.
