For a small information site or portfolio, start by evaluating Webnode and confirm the paid-plan conditions for your own domain. For self-hosted WordPress, compare Kinsta for a managed staging and recovery workflow or IONOS Web Hosting for an owner-managed arrangement. WordPress.com remains a hosted publishing alternative. For a store, verify the checkout, gateways, extensions and full bill before choosing a platform.

The right website plan supports the site’s job and the editing work you can maintain. A hosted builder can simplify operations; WordPress has a different extension and migration workflow. Compare requirements before prices. These are researched choices, not a usability test.
Name the required features
Decide whether the site needs information, bookings, payments, multiple editors or a specific extension. A brochure-site tier may not cover a transaction workflow. A store tier can add cost without benefit to a publication.
A fictional consultant’s three-page site may need a domain, contact route and comfortable editing. A shop needs verified transaction behavior and integrations. A provider’s popular label does not settle either decision.
Choose a starting plan for your site
Start with the publishing workflow below. Webnode is the first route to evaluate for an information site; self-hosted WordPress calls for a separate hosting decision. These are conditional editorial shortlists based on documented scope. Try a representative page and confirm the current offer before committing.
| Your situation | A starting shortlist | The deciding requirement |
|---|---|---|
| A small information site, service site or portfolio | Webnode | Evaluate the editor and required features first. A custom domain requires Premium for that website; obtain the current quote directly. |
| A WordPress publication you will host separately | Kinsta for a managed workflow; IONOS Web Hosting for an owner-managed arrangement | Confirm site and resource limits, the recovery procedure and the work remaining with you. Kinsta does not include mailbox hosting. |
| A publication using hosted WordPress.com instead | WordPress.com Personal; consider Business for operational tools | Plugins alone do not require Business. Upgrade for a named backup, staging or development need. |
| An online store with checkout | Wix Core or a paid WordPress.com plan with WooCommerce remain comparison options | Check payment country, extensions and fees. Commerce bundles more tools; it is not required to install WooCommerce. |
A simple site: try the editor before buying
Start with Webnode for a small information site when its visual editing workflow covers the pages you need. Its website builder offers a hosted route for business and personal sites. Build a representative service or portfolio page before buying; the presence of a template does not establish that every form, booking or integration fits.
Using your own domain requires Webnode Premium, and the subscription applies to one website. Confirm domain renewal, branding, languages, mailbox scope and the features you will actually use. We do not republish Webnode prices here: open our Webnode guide and use its issued website link to obtain the current offer.
Wix Light is another visual-editor comparison with hosting included. It suits a small business site or portfolio without checkout. Its documented limits include 2 GB of storage and two collaborators. Choose a different tier if you need integrated payments; do not pay for ecommerce merely to show your services.
Consider WordPress.com Personal if publishing and the WordPress ecosystem matter more. It includes 6 GB of storage and supports plugin and theme installation. Check compatibility for any specific extension. Business email is a separate purchase on either route.
Your next step: build a draft home page in the editor, inspect it on a phone and test the contact route. Then compare the matching plan and its full payment commitment in the price section. You can explore a free setup before paying; a custom domain and other capabilities have paid-plan conditions.
A blog: buy the operational tools you need
For a self-hosted WordPress blog, compare Kinsta first for its documented staging and daily-backup workflow, or IONOS Web Hosting when you will operate the WordPress installation. These are hosting arrangements, rather than WordPress.com plan names. Check resources, the ongoing hosting bill and maintenance responsibilities in the Kinsta guide or IONOS guide.
Kinsta documents staging and daily automatic backups, while mailbox hosting is separate. IONOS publishes plan-specific email allowances on its US Web Hosting page; do not treat that as identical to its Managed WordPress product or as a quote for every country. For the separate hosted WordPress.com route, use the plan checks below.
Start by checking Personal, not by assuming you need Business for plugins or an SEO plugin. Every paid WordPress.com plan supports plugins, subject to compatibility restrictions. A theme or plugin can still have its own licence and support costs.
Consider Business when you need its backup/restore service, staging or developer access. The specific backup documentation for activated Business/Commerce sites promises at least one backup per 24 hours, with more frequent backups when the site changes frequently. A backup feature does not remove the need to understand and test recovery.
Your next step: list the exact plugin, theme and recovery requirements. Confirm compatibility and who will support them. If those requirements fit Personal, do not upgrade just because a comparison labels Business as the popular plan.
A store: separate checkout from optional extras
Shortlist Wix Core for an integrated store with payments and ecommerce. Confirm that its payment methods work for your business country and products. Budget for necessary applications and payment processing instead of treating the plan subscription as the whole shop cost.
For hosted WordPress, WooCommerce can be installed on any paid WordPress.com plan. Commerce bundles store extensions and operational features; it is not a mandatory licence for the WooCommerce plugin. Price the extensions and maintenance you actually need before choosing that bundle.
WooCommerce and WordPress.com’s native Payment Buttons are different features. For a new site, native Payment Buttons require Premium, Business or Commerce; some older sites retain access on Free or Personal. The Payment Buttons platform fees are not a universal fee schedule for WooCommerce orders.
Your next step: write down the checkout, delivery and tax workflows and confirm gateway support for your country. For a choice between Shopify and self-hosted WooCommerce, use the store-platform comparison. Shopify supplies hosting; a self-hosted WooCommerce store needs a separate hosting arrangement.
Before committing: check the domain, mailbox, apps and exit route separately. Wix cannot export a complete functioning site to generic hosting. A WordPress.com XML export covers content and media references, not a full copy of the design, plugins and image files. Keep your original assets and choose a documented migration method.
Check the recorded comparison costs and commitments, then obtain a current quote for your billing country. These dated comparisons do not publish a Webnode tariff: get that offer through its website. The shortlists above do not establish a new US or European checkout price.
Read the USD reference and billing conditions
Pagember displays official USD price references. Providers can show different offers by region or billing country, and page language alone does not establish purchaser eligibility. Keep the stated commitment, tax treatment, extras and renewal conditions attached to each quote. A monthly equivalent on an annual plan is not a monthly invoice.
A promotional equivalent is not a renewal invoice. When renewal is not confirmed numerically, the table says so. Do not reuse a half-price offer as a long-term tariff. Obtain the quote for your actual address and term.
Include the whole site budget
List subscription, domain renewal, mailboxes, necessary applications and transaction charges that apply. A first-year domain is not permanently free. Add verified charges and leave unknown items as questions.
WordPress software has no license charge, but hosting and maintenance still cost time or money. A paid page builder is not required merely to write native articles. The platform comparison explains the operational difference.
Avoid an outdated WordPress.com assumption
Current documentation permits plugins on all paid WordPress.com plans, including Personal, with compatibility restrictions. Paid-plan code support has its own documentation. Do not buy Business solely because an old guide restricts plugins or header code to that tier.
This permission does not establish that every extension or monetization setup fits. AdSense verification, site review and serving approval remain separate. This portal has not connected an advertising account.
Check the exit before entering
Inventory text, original images, design, application data, domains and mail history. A content export is not a working design export. Check the relevant documentation and retain original assets under owner control.
Test one draft page, mobile navigation and a representative feature before a long commitment. We have not performed those supplier tests. Choose the tier for verified needs and defer unrelated upgrades.
