THE SHORT ANSWER

Start with hosting that includes email if you prefer fewer subscriptions. Choose a separate mailbox when independence matters. Compare the full initial payment, renewal and setup limits before deciding.

Hosting, domain and mailbox components arranged with a renewal budget ring.

Budget for the services your website needs and the full payments required to keep them running. A headline monthly rate can hide a prepaid term, a later renewal increase or a separate mailbox. For one small information website, start with hosting, a standard domain and email. Check what hosting already includes before paying for the same service again.

The examples below cover an owner-maintained WordPress website, one standard available .com domain and one mailbox. They are researched subscription examples. They exclude an online store, professional maintenance, premium themes and plugins, and any tax that has not been established for your billing details.

Put the services in one budget.

One owner-maintained information website, one standard .com and one mailbox. Paid plugins, a shop and professional maintenance are outside this example.

US hosting + global USD domain reference

Service subtotal to cover 24 monthsUS$273.52Full subscription payments · local tax checked separately

SiteGround StartUp, an external standard .com at Dynadot and one mailbox included with hosting.

Useful when: One small information website when you prefer hosting and its mailbox together.

Keep in mind: The hosting renewal is much higher than the first term. This example keeps the domain at Dynadot from day one; it does not redeem or subtract SiteGround's optional first-year domain promotion.

The subtotal adds each paid service once. Included services are not separate zero-price offers. It uses the recorded full prepaid terms and holds renewal prices constant. A longer invoice can cover months beyond your chosen duration. Tax, payment fees, premium domains, extra mailboxes, paid plugins and optional services can change checkout; this is not an all-in website quote or a future price guarantee.

Change the example setup

All example setups use USD. Local tax and optional extras are checked separately.

Hosting, a standard .com and one mailbox join in a budget that separates first payments from renewals.
Count each required service once, then compare the payments needed over time.

Choose the kind of website before choosing the cheapest plan

Your priorityStart withWhat changes the budget
A simple business or personal website with fewer setup tasksA hosted website builderHosting is normally part of the platform subscription; check domains, email, export options and the features in the exact plan.
Control over your WordPress installationHosting, a domain and an operating planYou choose extensions and take responsibility for updates, backups and access. Email can be included or separate.
Selling products and managing ordersAn ecommerce platform or a scoped WooCommerce setupPayment processing, transaction fees, extensions and operational work need a separate budget.

If you have not chosen a route, read website builder vs WordPress or website builder costs. The examples here are for a small WordPress information website; they are not interchangeable with a store or a builder subscription.

Read the payment, the period it covers and the renewal together

Compare three things: the initial amount you pay, the number of months it covers, and the amount and billing interval when it renews. A monthly equivalent is a way to describe a prepaid price. It does not mean that the provider lets you pay that amount each month.

The budget counts full subscription payments needed to cover the selected period. It does not prorate a prepaid invoice simply because you plan to use only part of it. If a plan covers more months than your selected horizon, unused paid coverage remains part of the commitment. Renewal figures are conditional references based on today’s recorded terms, not a promise of future prices.

Changing the duration above shows why the cheapest first year may not remain the cheapest longer commitment. StartUp has a separate introductory and renewal rate. EasyWP’s annual paid subscription is distinct from its monthly trial. Compare the exact term on the SiteGround pricing page and EasyWP pricing page.

Separate included services, optional promotions and extra subscriptions

ItemHow to count itWhat to verify
HostingOne hosting subscription for the selected website capacityInitial prepaid term, renewal invoice, storage and site limit.
DomainOne registration and its renewalsThe extension, standard versus premium name, registration term, renewal price and transfer rules.
MailboxIncluded when documented; otherwise one separate subscriptionNumber of real mailboxes, storage, renewal and any eligible introductory code. An alias is not a second independent mailbox.
SSL and backupsIncluded only when the exact setup qualifiesDNS or domain restrictions, backup retention, access to copies and a recovery process.
Optional software or labourAdd only after choosing a specific needLicence scope, renewal, support, setup and maintenance responsibility.

A first-year free-domain promotion is not a permanent free domain. These examples keep the domain at Dynadot from day one; they do not subtract a hosting promotion while also adding an external registrar’s domain. The registrar reference is for a standard available .com. A premium name or another extension needs its own quote. Dynadot .com registration and renewal; included ICANN fee.

In the SiteGround example, the mailbox, SSL and daily hosting backups are documented inclusions. The separate-email example instead adds one Namecheap Private Email Launch mailbox. Its annual introductory offer uses MAILDEAL and requires eligibility; a free trial follows different purchase rules. Read the current email offer and renewal before using the code.

Check the external-domain SSL condition before buying

The EasyWP example needs a specific compatibility check. Namecheap’s detailed SSL instructions describe an external registrar domain using Namecheap FreeDNS and the specified domain connection option. Its broader SSL overview and pricing footnote still restrict free SSL to Namecheap domains. We cannot resolve that contradiction for your particular domain from those pages alone. Confirm the setup before purchase; the subscription subtotal does not estimate the price of an alternative certificate or certify the setup as operational.

Specific EasyWP free-SSL instructions; broader SSL overview. If you prefer fewer conditional setup steps, compare the hosting-with-email example and check its own limits.

Use one currency and the right billing context

The budget uses USD references throughout. A public USD offer does not establish eligibility or a tax-inclusive invoice for every country. Confirm the actual billing conditions before purchase. The budget counts full prepaid purchases and does not use exchange rates.

Dynadot’s USD registration and renewal figures are current published references, not a guarantee of a future invoice. Domain and mailbox tax was not established for a purchaser country. Check country, tax and payment method on the provider’s final quote; see Dynadot pricing information.

Allow for the work of running the website

WordPress software is free and open source under its licence. Hosting, a domain, optional paid extensions and your time are separate. Start with the native editor and suitable free software when they meet the requirement. A premium page builder, SEO plugin or forms licence is not automatically necessary for a small information website. WordPress licence.

Assign someone to updates, account recovery and backups. Hosting backups are useful, but an independent copy and a restore check remain part of the operating plan. Read how to keep a WordPress backup you can restore. If you need migration, custom design or ongoing maintenance, get a separate scope and quote rather than treating that work as included in the hosting price.

Make a shortlist you can actually use

Choose the route first. Use the USD references to compare a full first-term payment with the renewal, and check the one or two limits that matter to your website. Confirm eligibility and tax using your actual billing details before purchase. A plan that cannot support your required mailbox or site capacity is not a useful saving.

Use the hosting payments and renewal comparison for individual hosting options. If you are buying from Europe, also read the VAT and hosting-location checklist. If email is the deciding requirement, read business email for a small team. Keep the domain, DNS, mailbox and website connection steps in your setup checklist.

Research limits. This is a public-documentation budget, not a purchased or benchmarked installation. The dynamic examples use individually dated price records and stop producing a subtotal when required evidence is missing or due for review. Before buying, recheck the provider’s current commitment, renewal and eligibility. Optional extras and unestablished taxes stay outside the subtotal.
